bikes - old & new

I currently have four motorcycles, three of which are running:

  • 1993 BMW K1100RS - Just bought this bike from Eddie James. This is the bike that he used to run three Ironbutt Rallys!
  • 1982 BMW R100RS - Purchased in 1989 after I crashed my 750 Turbo. It had 72,000 miles on it when I bought it and currently has over 108,000. This bike has been modified by me in the following manner:
    • Luftmeister 2-into-1 exaust. (Sounds great.)
    • Mikuni 38mm Flat Slide carbs. (Runs good, starts instantly, gets poor mileage. Reliability problem.)
    • Lightened wristpins. (Because I had the engine apart already.)
    • Powder coated Valve Covers, Swingarm, Final Drive and Wheels. (Gloss Black)
  • 1983 Kawasaki GPz305 - A silly little thing that I had to buy "because." Also going to be the wife's bike when she starts riding again. (Unfortunately, mine looks quite a bit rattier.)

Other bikes I have owned - In order:

  • 1975 Suzuki GT500 Two-stroke. A hoot to ride. Probably not the best beginner bike, but I survived without crashing it. Put a few miles on it learning to ride and then I bought a:
  • 1982 Honda CB750F. What a fun bike. This one came with a Kerker 4-into-1 exhaust and Mikuni smoothbores pre-installed. Put a lot of miles on this bike. After a while, I wanted something better. So I found a:
  • 1984 Kawasaki GPz 750 Turbo! The one I bought was actually pretty clapped-out, but the price was right. Drove it for the summer, then tore it down and beefed it up. Bored it out to 810cc, replaced all the seals and tweaked the turbo. Man, that bike was a fun ride. Managed to crash it in 1989(?) in Beartooth Pass, MT when an oil cooler line came apart and hosed down the rear tire. Didn't do a lot of damage to me, totaled the bike. But I just had to put it back together and ride it some more. Finally sold it to a co-worker when I realized that I had been riding the BMW a lot more then the Turbo. (Don't know what was wrong with me.) He managed to crash it in 1998, but has also put it back together. I might have to get another one of these some time. Boost is fun.
  • 1973 Honda CB350 Twin - Given to me by my friend Charles who mananged to run it out of oil. It's been rebuilt once already (after he ran it out of oil,) and is currently in my basement in pieces waiting to be rebuilt again. (And has been waiting for about 8 years.) - Sold I finally got off my butt and sold this thing (still in boxes) for 24 cans of Guinness!
